St. Charles LwangaGirls’Training Centre, Kalungu is located in the Southern part of Uganda, in Kalungu District. It was started in 1967 by the missionaries of Africa, well known as the white fathers. It is a mission-Catholic-founded school owned by the Diocese of Masaka. It is an all-girls’ boarding with both O and A levels. In establishing this school, the founder had two major objectives in mind:

  1. To train girls in practical skills such as typing, sewing, home economics, carpentry, and others.
  2. To provide academic education as is done elsewhere in secondary schools.

It is the original dream of emphasis on practical skills that accounts for the school’s official title; “Kalungu Girls’ Training Centre- KGTC”.
